This novel (not the movie itself, mind you!) is quoted no less than ten times in the Oxford English Dictionary, the ultimate authority on the English language, although few would mistake this novel for great literature.  Page references are to the British version, which seems to differ slightly from the American version.

barney: n.  a noisy dispute or altercation.
1964 J. Burke A Hard Day's Night i. 20.  'If you're going to have a barney,' said John, 'I'll hold your coats.'

caper: n.  Any activity or pursuit, spec. a fashionable occupation.  Also, a 'game,' dodge, racket.
1964 J. Burke A Hard Day's Night v. 104.  I know your caper.  The kidney punch and the rabbit clout.

gear: an expression of approval, hence as adj. good, excellent, 'great.'
1964 J. Burke A Hard Day's Night iii. 71.  'Gear!'  John jumped up from his seat.  'Come on, girls, let's have a bit of a dance.'
Ibid. iv. 89.  Once we even all sat down and wrote those letters saying how gear she was and all that rubbish.

grotty: adj. slang [shortened form of GROTESQUE a. + -Y] unpleasant, dirty, nasty, ugly, etc.: a general term of disapproval.
1964  J. Burke A Hard Day's Night iv. 88.  'I wouldn't be seen dead in them.  They're dead grotty.'  Marshall stared.  'Grotty?'  'Yeah--grotesque.'

kinky: descriptive in senses corresponding to kink of persons: perverted, esp. sexually; spec. homosexual of things or situations: suggestive of sexual perversion, as of certain items or styles of dress (e.g. kinky boots); in weakened sense, bizarre.
1964 J. Burke A Hard Day's Night i. 11.  She was dead kinky for sweetbreads.

mixer: n.  a troublemaker, slang.
1964 J. Burke A Hard Day's Night i. 21.  He's a king mixer.
Ibid. iv. 84.  'The old mixer,' growled Paul.  'Come on--we'll have to put him right.'
Ibid. v. 116.  'Look,' said Paul slowly and deliberately, 'he's a mixer and a troublemaker!'

stroppy: adj. bad tempered, rebellious, awkward, obstreperous, unruly.  Hence stroppiness.
1964 J. Burke A Hard Day's Night iv. 80.  'Have you got a licence for it?'  'Oh, don't be so stroppy.'
